I think I share your feeling about this picture I have found that the very best, the most heart rending, pictures of you are these momentary still points in the midst of all the fast punishing action – and there was another one of you kneeling, clad only in chains that gives no hint of being especially posed and reminds me of pictures of Joan of Arc in the tower cell at Rheims… a subject that Edwardian painters loved possibly because they were able to get it as erotic as they dared without actually making her nude. I was never much of a believer in the Myth of Jeanne but after all the tinted photogravures of battleships tanks and aircraft it was those images that I remember most from looking through the antique Arthur Mee Childrens Encyclopedias we had at home. It is odd how some pictures come back to haunt one after more than fifty years.

You seem to have an ability to produce these hard and soft images all in the same shoot which is both unusual and remarkable. I cannot see the point of hiding that expressive face or your wonderful eyes inside a helmet or under a mask except it’s a big relief when they are taken off.
