If you've been reading my blogs for a while, you know I love LOLs, but pictureisunrelated.com is ridiculous. I've seen almost every page. Once again, not sure what that says about me...

I suppose it illustrates the fact that I need to find a job. I've been applying and dropping off resumes and making phone calls. I've even gone on a few interviews. Did you know that most restaurants have a three step interview process here in L.A.? When I was waiting tables in Louisiana I would just go in, drop off an application, talk to the manager and get hired. It's been quite the process here. I suppose that's both the economy and the fact that it's Southern California, but c'mon! I will say it's discouraging. I'd like to think that I'm passably personable and presentable, but I have taken it personally. The lack of a job offer, that is. Since I've had so much time on my hands I've been working really hard on my two new blogs (and a third should be coming together by mid-March) and blogging for friends' websites. If you know anyone that needs a blog populated or needs someone to churn out quality copy, please send them my way! I'm reasonable and organized.

So, I've been a non-smoker for two months now! It's totally been worth it. Even the weight gain. Food tastes better, I have a much keener sense of smell. Not to mention that I can freaking breathe! I don't hack and cough every morning. It had been going on for so long that I didn't even notice it anymore. I always hacked away in the shower. Well, that's totally gone! I do cough a bit after TMS and I hit the gym, but I think that's my body getting rid of the gunk in my lungs. The weight gain hasn't been too overt. I've gained 15 pounds. I wouldn't call myself "fat", but I certainly don't feel thin. Does anyone out there have any experience with this? A few of my friends have told me that my weight will even back out in 6 months to a year. I've made an effort to eat super healthy over the past month, but really let myself eat whatever during the first month of abstaining from cancer sticks. I think my extra weight is partially due to that and partially due to the changes in metabolism that occur when you put out those smoky treats.

I was totally honored and surprised this morning to find that people commented on yesterday's post, about The Shining and the porno madness that is appearing on this blog. I totally appreciate the participation in the discussion, as well as the appreciation for my opinion on non-porno topics. I am anticipating the future of MzBerlinsBlog.com to be a mixture of both my rantings (and occasional ravings) with smut x-posted from my other online pursuits. I will say this- I find the participation really encouraging and it makes me want to post more. So, thanks everyone who has been commenting!

I'm not terribly upset that Cheney had a heart attack, and if you're reading this blog I feel that it's safe to assume that you aren't either. Seeing him on the news gave me horrible nightmares last night! I dreamed that he and Sarah Palin were in the running for the white house and it was up to ME to stop them! I was chasing them around a building that looked a lot like the Winchester Castle with a machine gun. They were freakin' fast! (In my dream.) Don't remember how the election, or my hunting excursion, turned out, but I did wake up in a cold sweat.

I mentioned Sarah a few posts back and my offhand comment elicited quite a few responses. She's such a polarizing character! I totally understand her appeal to the masses. She's pretty, but not overtly sexy, which doesn't turn off women or make her unattainable in mens' eyes. She doesn't come from a wealthy or political family, didn't attend an ivy league university and doesn't even hold an advanced degree. All of this combines to create an image that most average americans can relate to. She has a pronounced accent and doesn't use fancy shmancy terminology. Some people can identify with that. Basically, she's easy to swallow for people who feel that the media or politicians, in general, talk down to them. She's only marginally more educated than the Republican base, so she's not intellectually intimidating. She appeals to the Fox News audience. I mean, c'mon- if these people believe that Glenn Beck is a reliable source of information or has solid opinions of course they're going to accept Sarah without question. I also think that she positioned herself to be perceived as an "outsider" during and after the presidential campaign. She continuously talks about how she's an "outsider" and it was even mocked on SNL. I think that garnered her some sympathy with the Fox News crowd, as well. These are people who believe that they themselves are "outsiders" and that the government is actively trying to take away rights. The sad thing is that corporations are far more controlling than the government, and they equate it with freedom. Anyways, I totally "get" why Sarah is the new figurehead for the Republican party, and why she's so popular. Do I agree with her stance on things? Absolutely not! One of her most recent facebook postings was about global warming, and how the huge snow storm that hit the east coast is proof that it doesn't exist. Now, to an uneducated individual dealing with such harsh weather, maybe this sounds like an easy way to debunk the global warming "conspiracy." I realize that a snow storm will have very little impact on the thickness of sea ice, but I understand how a "common sense" conjecture can be made. I am not an expert on global warming and have gleaned most of my information from National Geographic, but I do understand that global warming means more extreme weather as well as a rise in sea level, not that it's just gonna be hot year 'round. But the Fox News crowd seems to take the words "Global Warming" at face value and assume that. I scrolled through the comments and at least half of them called Global Warming a "money making scheme" and a "hoax" to make Democrats "rich." Seriously. I'm not sure that anyone has made tons of money because of Global Warming, so I'm not sure what this opinion is based on besides the desire to believe in a "conspiracy" and band with other nuts. Another one of her recent blog entries shows her at a recent Indy 500 race and she calls it a "great American event." Her branding as an everyday, common person is pervasive throughout her facebook page and website. Her most recent post, on the healthcare summit taking place today, paints universal healthcare as something that will interfere with our individuality and our ability to grow financially as a country due to its' "high cost." I could go on and on, but the fact of the matter is this- She is a lot like McDonalds' "food like products". She is palatable (even tasty!) and people can identify with her easily, but not good in the long run, and not really food. It frightens me to think that people listen, and look up, to her. McDonalds' formulated food products do, as well. Unfortunately, I don't think either is going anywhere because they both appeal to the lowest common denominator.
